Common questions
Which iPhones are supported?
Any iPhone that runs iOS 26 or later. Every model shoots RAW in Chobial. Apple ProRAW is used automatically on Pro models that support it (iPhone 12 Pro and later Pro models); other iPhones capture Bayer RAW.
Is it really free?
Shooting, developing, making and sharing films, editing and browsing are free, with no time limit. Exporting a finished photo out of the app is what the paid unlock covers. That way you can try everything on your own photographs before deciding.
I bought Chobial on another device. How do I restore it?
On the Chobial Pro screen, tap Restore purchases. You'll need to be signed in with the same Apple Account you bought with.
Where are my photos stored?
Every capture is kept as a RAW negative inside Chobial, in its Documents folder — visible in the Files app under On My iPhone → Chobial. Exported photos go to your Photos library. Chobial never uploads your photos anywhere.
Why don't my films appear on my other iPhone?
Films sync through your iCloud. Check that you're signed in to the same Apple Account on both devices, that iCloud Drive is on, and that Chobial is allowed to use iCloud in Settings. A new film can take a minute to arrive.
A friend's film code won't scan.
Hold the code flat and fill about a third of the frame. If you've got the code as a picture — a screenshot of a post, say — use Scan from a Picture instead of the live scanner. If the app says the code is from a newer version, update Chobial from the App Store.
Can I shoot JPEG or HEIC only?
No — Chobial always captures RAW, because that's what makes every photo re-developable with any film later. You choose JPEG or HEIC when you export, and the export menu shows the exact pixel size you'll get.
Can I develop photos from my Fujifilm, Sony, Canon or Nikon?
Yes. Import RAW files from Files — DNG, and camera RAW formats such as Fujifilm RAF, Sony ARW, Canon CR2/CR3, Nikon NEF, Panasonic RW2 and others that iOS can decode — and develop them with any film.
How do I suggest a film for the app?
Open the film and choose Submit to Chobial, or email a .chobial file to [email protected]. Selected films are credited by name.
